Summary / Abstract:

ENThis article delves into the evolution of Lithuanian terminology during the 16th and 17th centuries, focusing on civilisation-bound words. it examines the work of konstantinas Sirvydas, who pioneered lithuanian lexical development through his trilingual dictionary, Dictionarium trium linguarum. the study methodically analyses all 14,598 entries in Sirvydas’ dictionary, categorising words based on their environmental salience, language of influence, and influence type. the findings highlight the significant impact of polish and, to a lesser extent, latin, revealing Sirvydas’ strategies to balance the use of lexical borrowings, calques, original entries, and modelled entries. this research contributes to understanding the intricate linguistic interplay during a critical period of lithuanian language development. Keywords: Lexicography, Polish language, Latin language, linguistic influences, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Sirvydas.
