ENPerson is by nature a sexual being. Sexuality which is perceived as self-giving of the man and the woman to each other through marital acts, is not just a biological phenomenon - it is the essence of the human personality. The person’s calling is to love and give as a present one’s body and soul. Femininity and masculinity are two gifts that complement each other. Therefore, human sexuality is an integral part of the ability to love which God presented to the man and the woman. Sexuality is the foundation of the personality, a way to be, to express oneself, to communicate with others and to feel, express and experience love. Every man and every woman can fully realize oneself only when unselfishly giving oneself, whereas the moment of marital link is a specific experience for spouses. Then man and woman in their truth as man and woman become a mutual gift to each other. The marital life as such is a gift, but it is especially apparent when spouses, giving oneself to each other in love, realize their meeting, which joins two bodies into one. In its deepest sense love is a real gift, and marital love, which unites the spouses and makes them “one flesh” (Gen 2, 24), does not end between them because it prepares them for the great giving where they become God’s co-operators in making new life. Thus, giving oneself to each other, they create the new reality - the infant who is the living reflection of their love, the sign of their marital unity, the live and unbreakable synthesis of motherhood and fatherhood. Marital love is realized by the mutual personal self-giving which is sexual relationship and has two meanings: 1) mutual personal development - the person-uniting sexual aspect and 2) the cooperation with God in creating and educating children - the life-giving sexual aspect.Unfortunately, today separating understanding of sexuality threatens the existential and psychological relationship between the lifegiving and person-uniting elements. The procreational element is attributed only to the biological function of sexuality. The integrating attitude towards sexuality, however, perceives the person-uniting and life-giving elements as equally important. These two dimensions are natural dimensions of the personal self. These values are personal values and not values for the person. The procreational dimension arises from the person’s sexual power. It is the person’s sexual power, therefore, it is personal with its value and dignity. But both the uniting and the procreational elements find their expression in a single marital act which possesses an inseparable integrity. Sexual unity of the spouses during the sexual act witnesses and embodies the deepness, endurance and intimacy of love. The same sexual act where the spouses express and strengthen their uniting love allows them to become the creators of new life. By its inner structure, the marital act, while tightly uniting husband and wife, makes them worthy cooperation in producing new life. This dual layer of the marital act, expressing the unity of the spouses and the ability of the human procreation, is embedded by the Creator into the very nature of the person. Keywords: sexuality, marital act, life-giving (procreational) dimension, lovetransferring (person-uniting) dimension, dimensional integrity of the marital act.
