ENThe aim of the paper is to reveal the main trends of unevenness of socio-eco- nomic development in Lithuania during the last two decades. In order to do this, several tasks have been formulated. First of all, the task is to count the deviation from the average for the selected demographic and socioeconomic indicators. The second task is to point out the regions that are lagging behind and could be perceived as peripheral. The research is based on the empirical analysis of demographic and socio- economic indicators on NUTS 4 level. It should be stressed that in Lithuania municipalities are identiied as NUTS 4 level regional units. Therefore, in total, in Lithuania there are 60 municipalities (NUTS 4 level regional units) that were analysed during the research that is presented in this article.
