Summary / Abstract:

ENGadamer’s hermeneutics in the system of sciences has presupposed a dialogical way of speaking with texts. A dialogical relation between a text and the perceptor is typical of theatre art; therefore, there is an attempt to look into Lithuanian theatre from a hermeneutical dialogue position in this article. At first, the criteria of the hermeneutical method are determined by which Lithuanian theatre could be classified as a model of dialogical theatre. Further, these criteria are actualised practically: productions by certain directors are analysed from a hermeneutical perspective, and presented as the dialogical relation between text and spectator. The Lithuanian theatre is dialogical in that it is not fully losing touch with the logocentric tradition and a dramatic text, its content and theme with the incorporation of postmodern tendencies still remains important. The visualisation of dramatic text of certain stage directors in Lithuanian theatre turns to the visual or textual side, but in both cases the notional content . what and what the text and the metatext of the production is speaking about . remains an essential constituent factor in the production. The performance in the Lithuanian theatre externalises the hermeneutical game of significance, rather than a postmodern rules-breaking game. [From the publication]
