Summary / Abstract:

Alantoje pastatė gotikinę bažnyčią, kuri išstovėjo iki XX a. pradžios. Sakoma, kad bažnyčia pastatyta pagonių šventvietės vietoje, kad sukeltų gamtos dvasios šauksmą. Ant tų pačių pamatų 1909 m. klebono D. Vainausko nurodymu pastatyta dabartinė mūrinė bažnyčia [p. 101].

ENAlanta name is mentioned in 1436 when Sigismund Kęstutaitis gave these lands as a gift to Astikas. During this time Astikas built a brick manor near the river bend and nearby was standing the former wooden manor house. Jacob Astikas was the voivoda of Mstislav in 1504. In Alanta he built a Gothic church, which stood until the beginning of the 20th century. In its place by direction of pastor D. Vainauskis a stone church was built in 1909. In 1828, the mansion was bought by Polish landlord Tadeusz Pac-Pomarnackis (1763–1849). Later, the estate was taken over by the cousin’s son Alexander Wladyslaw Pac-Pomarnackis (1806–1881). The last owner of Alanta manor before World War I was Tadeusz Pac-Pomarnackis. In 1853, the Pac- Pomarnackiai built in Alanta an outstanding neo-romantic, Italian villa-style mansion with a viewing tower, a barn, stables and other outbuildings. Alanta manor house was famous for its rich interior. In survived photographs we can see decorative plaster ceilings, ornate parquet floors and luxurious dining room furniture. Beautiful landscaped park and lawns surrounded Alanta manor house. Part of the park, located in the back of the house, was formed geometrically: there were trimmed hedges, ball-shaped trees and shrubs. Closer to the manor on the lawn stood vases and sculptures. The palace hall was on the first floor of a little outward widened risalita ledge with a massive crystal chandelier. There were tables and chairs lined up along the walls. The huge space, candle chandelier, sconce, impressive curtains, paintings, furniture, sumptuous floral arrangements, luxury parquet pattern formed a seamless sense of richness. The Far East Room-Hall was decorated in the style of a Chinese tea room, with a rich collection of pottery and lamps. There was a room with Louis XV-style sofas and chairs, and a set of paintings. Some other rooms had Louis XIV-style furniture, Biedermeier style, Eclectic English and French furniture. Alanta mansion was damaged during World War I. The last manor lord permanently escaped abroad. The estate was occupied by the Kaiser’s army soldiers, then by the Poles. Since 1920, in the manor lived independent Lithuanians army training company. Many valuable items were lost at that time. Alanta (Naujasodis) manor had the four-storey tower from 1850 to 1928. In front of the palace stood a white marble sculpture of Venus and Jupiter, the four round stone tables, benches, lights that were lit on special occasions, stands, wolf and lion figures, growing roses. The overall mixed style of landscape of the 1870 established in Alanta manor park covers 6 hectares of territory in southern Virinta side of the stream. Three ponds surrounded by many indigenous tree species: small-leaved limes, maples and ashes, spruces, bird cherries, mountain elms, willows and alders, birches, and oaks. In 1944–1948, during the Soviet land reform, as a palace Alanta manor was eliminated and in its place Alanta lower agricultural school was set up. In 1945, for one year the manor was housing a primary school, later an agricultural firm, a shop, office, people lived in it. In 1959–1973, the building was used by an agricultural school, housing for teachers and students. Now the manor is a state protected heritage.
