LTCz. Jankowskis buvo publicistas, kuriam rūpėjo įamžinti praeities palikimą ir visuomenės atmintyje įtvirtinti gimtosios Ašmenos žemės likimą bei žmones, kurie su ja buvo susiję. Jis akylai stebėjo įvykius Europos scenoje ir domėjosi praeities įvykių sąsajomis bei šiuolaikine politika. Jį domino Europoje vykstantys kultūriniai ir civilizaciniai pertvarkymai. Dėl šių priežasčių esminę vietą jo palikime užima įvairiems literatūros žanrams priklausantys tekstai: populiaraus pobūdžio istoriniai straipsniai, publicistika, esė, poetinės gavendos [poetiniai pasakojimai], kurių tematika susijusi su Napoleono epocha ir jos pėdsakais Vilniaus žemėje bei su Napoleono asmenybe ir Napoleono epochos paveldu Lenkijos ir Europos istorijoje. Šių kūrinių analizė leidžia Jankowskį laikyti talentingu ir objektyviu istorinių žinių populiarintoju, gerai besiorientuojančiu istoriografijos laimėjimuose, išmanančiu istorinius šaltinius, kuriuos iš dalies pats surado ir atskleidė. Nebuvo istorikas sensu stricto, bet jį galima laikyti vietiniu žinovu ir dokumentalistu, suvokiančiu praeities liudijimų ir istorinio paveldo išsaugojimo svarbą. [Iš leidinio]

ENCzesław Jankowski was a publicist who cared to commemorate the legacy of the past and to consolidate in the social memory the fate of his homeland of Oszmiana (Ashmyany) district and the people who were associated with it. He observed attentively events on the European scene and was interested in the relationships of the past events and contemporary politics. He was interested in the cultural and civilization transformations taking place in Europe. For those reasons, the important part of his output are texts belonging to various literary genres (historical texts of popular character, journalistic texts, essays, poetical tales). Themes of those texts are related to the Napoleonic era and its traces in the Vilnius Region and with Napoleon and the heritage of the Napoleonic era in the history of Poland and Europe. The analysis of those works allows to regard Jankowski as a talented and objective popularizer of historical knowledge, very knowledgeable about the output of historiography, who knows historical sources, that partly he himself searched for and made available. He was not a historian sensustricto, but he can be regarded as a regionalist and documentalist of outstanding merit, conscious of the importance of preserving testimonies of the past and historical heritage.
