LTStraipsnyje pateikiamas studentų pasitraukimo iš studijų tyrimas, kurio pagrindu išskiriamos priežastys, lemiančios studijų nutraukimą bei aptariami galimi pasitraukusiųjų iš studijų studentų skaičiaus mažinimo būdai. Tyrimo tikslas: išanalizavus studijų nutraukimą lemiančias priežastis, numatyti pasitraukusiųjų iš studijų studentų mažinimo galimybes. Nustatyta, kad, racionaliai paskirstytas studijų krūvis, sudarant galimybes derinti studijas su darbu, įdomiai vedamos paskaitos, informacinių technologijų taikymas studijų procese, sumažintų studentų, pasitraukusių iš studijų proceso, skaičių.
ENThe paper provides an assessment of dropouts in the context of the scientific literature by highlighting the dropout reasons and discussing possible solutions to reduce the number of dropout students. The aim of the study was to analyse the causes of dropout and to identify possibilities for reducing the rate of dropouts. Analytical descriptive, quantitative, and statistical methods were used in the study. The results of the study have revealed the need to find ways and measures to reduce the rate of dropouts. Even though the respondents consider their studies as rewarding, interesting and enjoyable, almost half of them have thought about dropping out their studies at least once. The research shows that inconvenient schedule of lectures, boring material, as well as insufficient knowledge and skills obtained during the studies, outdated content of the studies, which does not go hand in hand with the needs of the modern labour market, and excessive requirements for students were identified as one of the main external factors affecting the increasing rate of dropouts. Meanwhile, lack of motivation to study, doubts about chosen field of study, problems with payment for studies, difficulties in combining studies with work, and physical health problems or illness were identified as one of the most important personal reasons for dropping out of studies. According to the respondents, a rational distribution of the study load, which would allow to combine studies with work, interesting lectures, the use of information technologies in the studies, which would provide students with access to video recordings of lectures at their convenience and allow to absorb information without attending lectures, as well as the content of the study programme targeted to respond to today’s labour market needs could help reduce the dropout rate.
