ENThe article presents the circumstances of the 1926 coup d’etat in Lithuania, the events preceding the coup, his course, but also the consequences. The focus is primarily on the legal aspects, like functioning in practice the democratic constitution of 1922. The article is the Urst in a series of three. In the following will be presented next Basic Law – adopted by President A. Smetona in 1928, another constitution of 1938 and the general system of government by Lithuanian nationalists.
