ENThe Scientific and Research Institute of Eastern Europe and its affi liated School of Political Sciences were established in early 1930 in Vilnius. Closely associated with the academic community of the Stefan Batory University, they became a permanent part of the intellectual history of the city, primarily through their research and staff of eminent experts on the Soviet Union.
