Summary / Abstract:

ENThe collapse of the communist system in Central and Eastern Europe contributed to the creation of new states. Independence regained the former republics comprising the Soviet Union, such as Lithuania – which is an independent state by the outbreak of the Second World War. In this situation, the Parliament tenth term – derived from the so-called the June election which took place in Poland in 1989, faced the need to determine foreign policy towards the new member. The changes taking place in Lithuania were very dramatic. It is worth mentioning about the storming of the TV tower in Vilnius in January 1991 and many sacrifices on the part of the Lithuanians. Creation of Polish foreign policy then by prof. Skubiszewski sought to establish the best possible relations with Lithuania. Parliament also joined a discourse devoted to the issues of Lithuania, devoting this issue much more space and time than the Ukrainian or Belarusian issue. It resulted from the fact the predominant national minority in Lithuania were a minority that sometimes due her number was in a position to rule in some regions, local government and at the same time she was discriminated against by the then Lithuanian authorities.
