Summary / Abstract:

ENSituational thinking is considered as an alternative path to the rational and rigid systems of thinking in both Chinese and Western Postmodernism. Also, it viewed as the main symptom of the process of orienlalizalion that is taking place in Postmodern culture al present. Situalionality consists in developing direct aesthetic relations with reality, in the dynamic change of the subjective identity and its intersubjective environment. Still, situational thinking has quite different roots, emphases, meaning and functions depending on whether it unfolds in Chinese or Western culture. The purpose of this article is to discuss the peculiarity of Chinese situational thinking, as it is encountered in " The Book of Changes" ("Yijing"), Confucian morality, Daoistic aesthetics, and Chinese art in general. The main idea is that the universality and perfect adaptability of Chinese situational thinking is the outcome of the harmonious relations between the human person and nature and is based on a natural inner principle enabling the maintenance of a vital and psychosomatic balance between the human and ontological sides of reality. Situational thinking prevents one from confining himself or herself to mere linguistic-hermeneutical issues and the dissociating fragmentation of one's world (in all its aspects), as it was the case with Western Postmodernism.
