ENThe article, based on the material of the Thesaurus of Southern South Highlanders describes the image of a person living in the area of Southern South Highlanders, i.e. physical appearance and physical characteristics, features character and mode, social status and relationships. In the Southern South Highland dialects the word man is used in three direct meanings: 1) any person (male, female, child); 2) a person of his or her nationality; 3) a spouse to his wife, husband. Mostly, the sentences that testify the first meaning, i. e. the examples illustrating the main meaning of the word are found, only one or two examples are found representing the second and the third meanings of the word. The Thesaurus tells us about the Dzūkai of Varėna region and their world: mysterious, harmonious, calm and at the same time full of surprises and frivolous. It also describes the worldview, customs and routine of the villagers scattered in the forests. Their daily routine is reflected in the native language which is melodic, verbal, and archaic. The Thesaurus providers, by observing ongoing economic and social processes under unfavourable demographic conditions, are talking about the enduring old world of security and the changing human being. A person living in the southern part of South Highlands is kind, sincere, open, cheerful and witty, diligent and creative. In his/her worldview, the old mythological world, the secrets of Catholic faith, and the realities of the present are intertwined. Although the world is changing, old values and customs are disappearing, the southern highlander is optimistic about the world. The analysis carried out shows that the Thesaurus of Southern South Highlanders is a cultural text that tells us a lot about a man and his/her environment, revealing the ongoing changes in the material and spiritual life.
