ENIn 1958 there were prepared the first projects of Lithuanian Lists for Cultural Monuments. At that time two republican institutions took care of protection for monuments of culture: Ministry of Culture (MC; - protection of archeology, history and art monuments) and State Committee for Construction and Architectural Affairs (SCCAA; - protection of architectural monuments). In 1958 the project for the List of architectural monuments wa s mad e ready (the research adviser - A. Pilypaitis, SCCAA , the chief of the Inspection for architectural monuments) and the project for the List of archeology, history and art monuments ( the research adviser - S. Čipkus, MC, the chief of department for museums and protection of cultural monuments). In 1961 the Government of Soviet Lithuania confirmed the first List of Architectural Monuments of Republican significance. Later, in 1963-1972 , the Government approved the Republican Lists of two types: history and architecture. The Ministry of Culture confirmed the other two lists: archeology and art (Republican significance) and all Lists of a local significance. In 1973 the mentioned Lists were published in a separate book. The Scientific-Methodical Council for Monumen t Protection of MC was publisher of this book, which includes 10215 monuments of culture. Having regained Independence in Lithuania there was established the Register of Cultural Heritage. It was managed by the Department of Cultural Heritage at Ministry of Culture. The Ministry confirmed the necessary criteria of evaluation for registration of cultural heritage. In accordance with the data of the Department (2018-06-28) there were 32 431 objects; among them there are 13 274 objects (including sites) in the Register.
