Summary / Abstract:

ENThe aim of the research is to show that irony as a speech act follows the felicity requirements, and that it might be regarded as a double layered act not only because of its double meaning but also because it simultaneously performs two functions that are contradictory. The research is based on the material taken from political TV talk shows, the Internet and newspaper headlines that were broadcast or published in the period from 2005 to 2007.
