ENVilnius and Lithuania are relatively close to Poland (both in geographical as well as in historical and cultural terms), but they are far enough away to provide for a slightly more objective outlook of Poland and her problems. Journalists, and the mass media in general, are obviously under manifold influences, and in order to attract their readers’ attention they will concentrate on trivia or the news, rather than on commentaries or deeper analysis. As the period of this analysis covered the period between December 2005 and January 2006, the majority of news from Poland was devoted to the subject of the establishment of the new government in Poland. Considerable attention was also paid to economic problems and the issues of foreign policy (especially to NATO and Polish relations with her eastern neighbors). What is characteristic is a large proportion of religious, or Church-related issues. Little space was devoted to cultural and scientific issues or the problem of crime in Poland though.
