ENIn 1922 structures of anti-Polish partisan movement, supported by the Lithuanian government from abroad, were formed in Polish counties neighbouring with Lithuania. The aim of the movement was to establish an independent Belarusian state. The Belarusian-Lithuanian partisans achieved the most support in Grodno County of Białystok Voivodeship. The majority of the partisans were young peasants, joined by part of the village intelligentsia. The partisans carried out several diversionary actions, forcing the Polish authorities to direct a regular army against them. In the summer of 1922 the police uncovered a secret partisan network in Grodno County, arresting about 70 people. In 1923 Lithuania lost interest in supporting the Belarusian partisan movement. A great number of partisans immigrated to the USSR. From a political point of view, the actions undertaken by the partisans were a mere fracas that had no chance to succeed and contributed to discrediting the Belarusian national movement in the eyes of the liberal Polish community.
