Šiaurės rytų aukštaičių dainos ir jų interpretavimo bruožai

LTŠiaurės rytų Aukštaitija, kalvomis kalvelėmis, tolyn besidriekiančiais ežerais ežerėliais, vešliais lapuočių miškais ir pievomis pasidabinusi, garsėja kaimo žmonių atviraširdiškų svetingumu, iki šiol išlaikytais senaisiais papročiais bei tradicijomis. Šio krašto dainų kraitis - originali lietuvių liaudies muzikinės-poetinės kūrybos dalis, galimas dalykas, susiformavusi dar priešistorėje. Šalia bendrų su kitomis Lietuvos etnografinėmis sritimis reiškinių jame pastebima ir niekur kitur nepasitaikančių, gerai išlikusių, naujais laiko sluoksniais menkai tepridengtų. Aukštaitijos savitumą, visų pirma, akivaizdžiai matome iš čia populiarių melodijų ir poetinių tekstų tipų. Kaip žinia, visoje Lietuvoje nuo seno buvo paplitusi žemdirbystė ir gyvulininkystė. Tačiau, ko gero, Aukštaitijoje šie liaudies verslai daugiausia teikė kūrybinių impulsų darbo ir kalendorinių apeigų dainoms atsirasti [p. 14].

EN„Lithuanian Folk Music” is a serial publication of phonograph records designed to disclose the traditions of interpretation fostered by folk singers in various ethnographic regions of Lithuania. The presently compiled part No. 2, „Songs of Aukštaičiai”, represents the north-eastern area of Lithuania. The region is the main centre of polyphonic and homophonic-harmonic style. The bulk of the songs of North-eastern Aukštaičiai published here have been selected from the stock of the Folk Music Study at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and from the records of the Vilnius Recording Studio made between 1969-1983. All polyphonic songs, sutartinės, have been taken from the stock of the Folklore Department of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. In 1935-1937 they were registered on phonograph discs by the folklorists Jadvyga Čiurlionytė and Zenonas Slaviūnas as then performed by folk singers who still felt subtly the peculiarities of the polyphony of sutartinės. The phonograms included in the present publication were restored in 1973. At the request of the Lithuanian Academy of Music the restoration was performed at the Institute of Musical Folklore headed by Dr. L.Vargyas under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
