A New security provider? Lithuanian - German security cooperation

ENThe main aim of this paper is to analyse the role Germany plays in the security of Lithuania aiming to assess the potential for closer cooperation in the field of security. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part provides a brief overview of the relations between the two countries throughout the 20th century to demonstrate the dynamics of those relations. The second part introduces the main challenges that Lithuania and Germany face in their security cooperation and examines current perceptions of Lithuanian security elite vis-à-vis Germany. The last chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the German role in Lithuania as a security actor. Recommendations for the improvement of cooperation are outlined in the conclusions.
