Musical abilities of future primary school teachers as a component of their professional training

ENAnalysis of pedagogical, psychological and musicological literature shows that musical education is a significant constituent element of future primary (elementary) school teachers’ professional training. It is not only necessary for teaching one subject at school, but also for a teachers’ spiritual and cultural erudition, communication with children and maintaining interdisciplinary connections. Therefore, the structure of teacher training should have adequate attention for future primary school teachers’ special (musical) training. The main goal of the educational system in Lithuania is related to the aspiration to develop humans’ physical, mental and spiritual powers, to provide a person with necessary conditions to express himself as an individual, to encourage him to improve. The article examines the problem of musical abilities and determines the criteria for assessing the level of musical abilities, according to which 92 students of Primary education programme have been analysed. The problematic areas of musical education that need to be solved are revealed. Research methods: scientific literature analysis, musical ability test, comparative analysis.
