ENThe aim of the article is to discuss the words of German origin that function in Polish dialects in Lithuania. We include both direct loans (proper German loanwords), e.g., bryta, obsac, trafunek) and indirect ones (i.e. borrowings into Lithuanian Polish mediated by other languages, most notably East Slavonic or Lithuanian), e.g., fest 'church fair', galsztuk 'tie', lucht 'attic'.The analyzed words have been excerpted from a dictionary compiled by Janusz Rieger, Irena Masojć and Krystyna Rutkowska, published in 2006 ("Słownictwo polszczyzny gwarowej na Litwie", 'Vocabulary of Polish dialects in Lithuania'). Since this dictionary is differential, the vocabulary analyzed in the paper also differs in many respects from that of standard Polish. The broad scope of the term 'differentiability' applied in the dictionary triggers the inclusion of obsolete words or lexical items slightly differing with respect to their (phonetic or morphological) form or merely their meaning. The words of German origin excerpted from the dictionary have been broken down into 3 groups, depending on their functioning only in Polish or in other languages used in Lithuania (East Slavonic languages and/or Lithuanian).
