ENThis essay about architecture and landscape considers the concept of space, formed by personal experience, and architectural aesthetics, their reflection in literature. The uniqueness and value of old wood architecture - from Samogitian homesteads to crosses, chapels, wooden churches - is discussed, in stone churches the junction of local and European tradition is recognised. The essay also considers the multi-layered architecture of cities, the perception of their heritage, the responsibilities of architects and the community in protecting it. The issue of the relationship of the new architecture with place, nature and tradition is considered.
