ENUniversities are a central actor in the research and innovation system in all European countries, and therefore also important for the uptake of RRI. In the following, we analyse the extent to which RRI is integrated at universities for the 16 European countries represented in the “RRI-Trends” study. After a short introduction, we give an overview of how RRI is applied across European universities. This is followed by an explanation of the key mechanisms universities apply to enhance specific dimensions of RRI. The chapter finishes by discussing the key incentives for and barriers to the uptake of mechanisms promoting RRI.
