Summary / Abstract:

ENThe most outstanding works of the Great People of our nation, which led to the resurrection of the Nation-State in the land devastated by the most terrible warfare, have been carried away by the time. Everything what happened was influenced by the following: the annexation of the German military occupation government, the rise of chaos caused by revolutions in Europe, the military intervention of the pro-Russian forces, the aspirations of the Polish politicians and their militant interventions to seize the ethnic Lithuanian territories, and the policies of the great states, transforming the political map of Europe under the dictated conditions. In such difficult circumstances, the Titan’s strength was necessary not to forget, far away, barely enlightening the Dawn of the Nation, and perseveringly, selflessly work to go and lead towards the Nation’s Future. Who were those Titans, those people, the forces that formed and led the nation? How did the process of creating the state of Lithuania take place? Reading the minutes of the meetings of the Organizational Committee who was responsible for the Lithuanian Congress, from their relatively dry, often-sketched scribbled contents, it is possible to see the ability of the Lithuanian politicians to understand the realities of that era and to take them towards the creation of the independent state of Lithuania, that is to say, in all possible contexts conditioned by German occupation. As a result of all this, the Lithuanian Council was born, who, skilfully scavenging, managed to resist the German aspirations to turn Lithuania into their colony and on February 16, 1918 to proclaim the Lithuanian Independence Act. However, it was necessary to go through a very complicated and difficult diplomacy and policy-based way. The article describes the complex way towards the independence as well as the brain battles of the people who signed the Independence Act.
