Summary / Abstract:

LTStraipsnyje detalizuojami pagrindiniai nuotolinių ir tradicinių studijų skirtumai, pristatomos priemonės, kurios gali būti naudojamos matematikos mokymui vykdant nuotolines studijas universitete. Atliktas tyrimas su realiais duomenims, siekiant įvertinti naudojamų technologijų efektyvumą mokant matematikos nuotolinėse studijose.

ENIn this article we present the main differences between the distance and traditional studies. Currently, many university mathematics courses taught using distance learning techniques. A number of scientists examined the mathematics teaching effectiveness in distance studies, comparing traditional and distance learning with each other. Interest of distance learning in Lithuania is growing every year. Probably the first academic institution offered distance learning in Lithuania is Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). This article will try to answer some questions about efficiency of the teaching of mathematics in distance studies. The article discuss important aspects related to online mathematics courses at the VGTU, including: virtual learning environment, the study process and instruments used in the preparation of mathematics courses. Study on the comparison of traditional and distance learning efficiency has been carried out with real data using the R program. 124 students of traditional studies and 51 students of distance studies where chosen who have held the exam of course "Algebra and Calculus“.The purpose of this study was to examine whether distance studies in mathematics education can be effective. Was formulated the main hypothesis of the equality of results in distance and traditional education with the alternative hypothesis that the results are significantly different. To verify these hypotheses was used parametric t-test and nonparametric Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test. Both tests have shown that the differences of results in distance and traditional education are significant. Although distance learning results are better, we have to watch them carefully and we can’t make a definitive conclusion about the effectiveness of mathematics course in distance education. This study has shown that modern technology helps students prepare for courses in mathematics and are clearly matched those students who are studying in traditional courses. Such research should be carried out regularly with students who listens to no one math course. Also keep in mind that the quality of education depends on the teacher's competence, teaching methods, learner motivation, friendly learning environment, and other factors.
