Knowledge triangle, innovation performance and global value chain
ENThe paper deals with knowledge triangle in Visegrad countries (e.g. Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovak Republic) and Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia). Six of these seven countries are classified as the high income countries and one as the upper middle income country. Also, they are all transition economy countries. The relation between the employment and innovation, innovation activities and innovation performance is based on the OECD data related to global innovation index both the input and output sides indexes as well as on the data about the employment in high- and medium-high technology manufacturing sectors and knowledge-intensive service sectors. The changes of indexes by the Visegrad and Baltic countries are identified as well as the trends. The contribution discusses differences or distances between the indexes and their stability in the context of employment structure as well as global value chain. The comparison of global innovation index and its sub-indexes in Visegrad and Baltic countries shows the opportunities for better understanding of the innovation activity conditions, performance in the innovation, the employment tendencies and rates of high-tech exports in these countries. In the context of knowledge triangle and improving the innovation performance, the key challenge is developing skills for innovation in education and training systems. The aim is connected with the preparing more people with the knowledge and skills related to innovation and creativity in all its forms. All countries have to increase the outputs based on the knowledge, innovation and creativity.
