ENThe article reviews the situation of military construction in Lithuania in the 1930s, the design of new buildings, the extent of construction, the features of architecture, the influence of new complexes on the urban structure of cities and towns, the significance of Lithuanian garrisons for public education and the spread of Lithuanian culture. The article describes the objects from an architectural-urban point of view; it does not discuss in more detail historical events, people involved in these events and the army. The barracks complexes built in Radviliškis, the Linkaičiai arms factory and military warehouses are also described. The construction of wooden barracks of the Radviliškis Railway Battalion at the railway is analyzed: 8 buildings were built. An obelisk, a monument to Vytautas the Great, was erected in the barracks yard in 1930, demolished in 1960, restored in 1989. There is also described a huge complex of military buildings built in the lands of former Radviliškis Manor: modern barracks and other buildings. In 1935, the team of armoured fighting vehicles and the engineering battalion moved to these barracks. In 1936-1939, the construction of Linkaičiai arms factory together with workshops, warehouses for artillery, raw materials, explosive materials, water, electricity stations and other objects took place. The buildings were designed by famous Lithuanian architect B. Elzbergas, engineers S. Jurgutis, J. Mikaila, J. K. Vokietaitis and A. Gruodis.
