ENThe article analyses an overall decline in children’s reading and Library efforts to instil children’s reading habits in nowaday’s virtual environement. For libraries this task becomes a challenge because the digital jungle has stolen our young readers’ time and attention. Moreover, oral storytelling tradition that was naturally embedded in people’s mind, now is quickly vanishing. Reading for pleasure has also been sharply decreasing in many countries. The author of the article gives examples how much the Library has to do and to fight in order to win its readers’ library visits and use. Povilas Višinskis Šiauliai County Public Libraty, especially its Children’s Literature Department, organises annually around 100 events: educational programs, contests, workshops, author meetings, reading promotion events and employs other diverse measures. All of them deal with literature and book reading. The formula of success is creativity and news- w'orthiness. The library offers traditional events and, likewise, seeks for new services. The traditional Library activities are summer reading programs, Book Presentation Contest, Book-bus with travelling book characters and book-talk activities, reading-to-dog sessions and what not. New innovations are a mutual Library and TV program featuring up-to-date activities and reading approaches, a project that carried out reading activities on myriorama principle and Library outdoor events for the public in different gathering places.
