Translations and self-representation: literature as a tool for a mutual Jewish-Lithuanian acquaintance

ENIn this article, I would like to draw attention to a not very widely researched phenomenon, namely the use of literature and, in the absence of a common language, of literary translations for constructing cultural communication between Jews and Lithuanians in interwar Lithuania. My aim is to emphasize the direction of translations and to provide biographies for the most active group of Jewish intellectuals in this field. A second goal is to understand the specific choices made by contemporaries to present their own culture and religious tradition more clearly. [From the publication]
