Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article deals with the prerequisites, sequence and consequences of the first attempt of the establishment of the Academy of Lviv. Analysing the structure of the Lviv Jesuit school and the level of revenue, the author undermines the historiography myth that all the previous history of Lviv College was incessant and aimed at getting the status of the university. This educational transformation was defi ned by several factors of the social and political life. The appearance of John II Casimir’s foundation did not guarantee the success – the counteraction of the Cracow academy resulted in the lack of the legitimate status of the Lviv academy. Meanwhile, the level of its structural development and material condition quickly became incompatible with the university ambitions of the Lviv Jesuits.
