ENOver the last few decades, bookbinding issues have increasingly often been included into the sphere of book culture research by the Lithuanian scientific community. While bookbindings often feature as individual case studies in scientific literature, the present research aims at an examination of the entire collection. The research has been conducted at the most prominent heritage institutions of Vilnius, the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and the Vilnius University Library. The purpose of this article is to study bookbindings from 17th century publications of the Vilnius Academy Printing House from the holdings of the distinguished Vilnius libraries. It is suggested that a majority of publications printed in the 17th century by the Vilnius Academy Printing House, on the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, were bound by local bookbinders and display features characteristic for 17th century bookbindings. This assumption is based on written sources published by E. Laucevičius. In the frame of the current research, data on the bookbindings from 17th century publications of the Vilnius Academy Printing House are compared with data on two 17th century agreements between the Vilnius bookbinders and the Vilnius Jesuit Academy. The research confirms that the bookbindings from the publications of the Vilnius Academy may be attributed to the 17th century and gives substance to the assumption that bindings from publications of the Vilnius Academy Printing House kept in the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Vilnius University Library belong to the Baroque time period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
