ENThe main local dialects of Latvian Sėla Lithuanians can be found in the district of Daugavpils. In the southeast of Daugavpils (to the east of the parish of Laukesa) there is a boundary of the dialects of Uteniškiai and Vilniškiai. Both dialects can be distinguished easily according to the ending of the ė stem - the Uteniškiai say mergait'a "mergaitė" (girl), etc. and the Vilniškiai - mergaltie. The Uteniškiai speak less of the Dzūkai dialect and more often make the diphthongs ie and uo as monophthongs. The local dialect of the southern regions of Daugavpils also differs. We shall speak about the dialects of the parishes of Daugavpils and Laukesa (Gryva, Niderkünai, Papušinė) and the dialect of the parish of Medumas. The consonants t and d of the first dialect before the vowels of the / type sometimes become с and dz. The consonants of the dialects are not always made hard in the same way and some forms of the words differ. The Lithuanian local dialect of Eglaine that is to the southwest of Daugavpils differs more clearly. The vowels ė and о of it more often become ie and uo, and sometimes the short vowels a and i of the ending are not pronounced, e.g. ans "anas" (he). The Lithuanians have learned the languages of their neighbours - the Latvian, Polish and later on the Russian and Byelorussian, so some peculiarities of the Lithuanian dialects were determined by the bilingualism, multilingualism and living conditions.
