ENThe present issue is an attempt to recreate from manuscripts as well as a rare collection of articles the series of lectures delivered in 1936-1937 and 1942 at Vytautas Magnus University by the famous Lithuanian press worker and publicist Juozas Keliuotis (1902-1983). The sequence of lectures provided in this study follows closely the programme announced by Keliuotis to the students of the Department of Sociology and Journalism, chaired by Keliuotis. Keliuotis, however, did not complete the programme. While he recorded some of the lectures, others were delivered from detailed lecture plans; the main concepts of the latter thus had to be reconstructed from notes taken by his students. Nonetheless, the course in General Journalism is now available in its entirety. We provide below the contents of Keliuotis's book "Lectures in Journalism", a bibliographic rarity. Keliuotis' lectures are many-layered for in preparing them he used texts and plans of lectures written around 1942 as well as articles drawn from his collected volume "The Problems of Today's Press". The latter is based on Keliuotis' doctoral dissertation "The Psychology of the Press", written while Keliuotis was studying in Paris in 1928-1929, as well as on lecture texts delivered at Vytautas Magnus University in 1936 and subsequently published in "Naujoji Romuva" ("The New Romuva").During the period in question period Keliuotis grew to become a creative thinker of considerable depth and erudition, his pedagogical and scientific potential increased, his style of expression changed considerably. In these lectures, arranged thematically rather than chronologically, an attentive reader will certainly notice unevenness and the many changes that accompanied the author's long and steady progress. As we attempted to reclaim Keliuotis' lectures, which have both educational and scholarly value, we found it necessary to bring them closer to today's reader. Thus Keliuotis' language has been corrected, otherwise all effort has been made to preserve the author's vocabulary and style including the neologisms, barbarisms, and dialectal forms typical of Keliuotis' period. In addition, explanatory notes and indexes of names and periodicals prepared by the editor of the book Leonas Gudaitis are being provided. [From the publication]
