LTAukštojo mokslo sistemoje įvykęs perėjimas prie į studentą orientuoto studijų modelio ne tik sąlygojo naujus reikalavimus studijų programų sandarai, bet ir suponavo naujų besimokančiųjų kompetencijų poreikį ir su tuo susijusias studijų proceso inovacijas. Įdiegus ECTS, žymiai padidėjo mokymosi veiklos apimtis, o besimokančiojo savarankiškumas ir atsakomybė tapo viena esminių studijų nuostatų. Tokioje studijų sistemoje studijų sėkmei ypatingai svarbus yra besimokančiųjų gebėjimas mokytis. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama studentų mokymosi mokytis kompetencijos svarba šiuolaikinėje aukštojoje mokykloje, šios kompetencijos raiška ir struktūra bei jos ugdymo(si) galimybės. Remiantis užsienio šalių patirtimi, analizuojama efektyvaus mokymosi sistemos aukštojoje mokykloje samprata, tokios sistemos sukūrimo nauda ir galimybės. Taip pat išryškintos ir kitos su studentų savarankiško darbo studijų procese organizavimo ir paramos jiems teikimu susijusios problemos, ieškoma optimalių jų sprendimo būdų.

ENTransition which have take place in the system of higher education from the teacher based to the student based study model was the good background not only for the new demands to the study programmes, but also raised the need of new competencies from the students. It also raised the need of study process innovations too. After the ECTS integration to the study process the duration of learning activities (instead the teaching activities) became larger than in teaching paradigm. The independence of the students and their own responsibility in study process became one of the main important attitudes in the field of higher education. In such situation the ability to learn became one of the most important things for successful studying. The aim of the article is to give theoretical and empirical background to the ability to learn as the necessary condition for success and quality of studies in the institutions of higher education. And to confirm the necessity of systematical approach to the academicals support for students in higher educational institutions. The importance and manifestation of ability to learn are investigated in this article. The empirical data let us confirm that students have not enough developed the ability to learn. For example, only the third part of the respondents could analyze and reflect their learning processes, distinguish the main difficulties of it and etc., the other third of them could be able to create strategies how to improve their own learning processes. And the third of respondents couldn’t do anything. So the conclusion which was made according this research was to confirm the necessity to develop students’ learning abilities in higher education institutions.On the basis of analyze of good experience of other foreign universities which have well developed systems of academic support for educating the ability to learn, the suggestions for creating such systems in our universities and other institutions of higher education are presented in the article too.
