LTStraipsnyje analizuojama jaunųjų futbolininkų asmeninės kompetencijos raiška, įžvelgiant neformaliojo sportinio ugdymo kokybės problemas, jaunųjų sportininkų rengimo kaitos galimybes. Teorinės įžvalgos ir empirinio tyrimo rezultatai išryškino pagrindinius motyvus, lemiančius futbolo sporto šakos pasirinkimą ir veiksnius, skatinančius treniruotis, siekti rezultatų. Nustatyta asmeninių kompetencijų betarpiška dermė su vertybinėmis orientacijomis. ENNon-formal education is becoming increasingly more relevant and significant in the context of education in Lithuania because knowledge and skills gained during formal education are not enough to educate a versatile personality. When participating in activities of non-formal education, children develop competences enabling them become active members of society, independently solve problems arising in their lives. The problem question of the paper: what factors do determine expression of young football players’ personal competence; and how should the training of young sportsmen change when orienting this process towards an integral system where development of personal competences is the essence? Research object: personal competence of young football players. Research aim: to analyse and empirically ground expression of young football players’ personal competence having the insights on possibilities for improvement of quality in non-formal sport education. Research methods: 1) theoretical (analysis and generalisation of literature sources); 2) empirical: questionnaire-based survey and content analysis; 3) statistical analysis of the research data. Results of the empirical research highlighted major motives encouraging the choice of football: popularity of the sports branch, example of “sport stars”, interesting activities, advice of pedagogues, parents, peers to go in for sports, personal determination, a wish to become enrolled to the national team in the future. Major factors encouraging the going in for sports are the following: a wish to be healthy, strong and physically active, to maintain good relationships with a coach, to gain new knowledge, skills on football, to participate in sport competitions, a wish to fulfil leisure time with interesting activities, the striving to be known, respected, etc.The research proves the ideas stated by scientists: for young football players it is important to have safe and managed environment for training, high quality sports inventory, favourable relationships with a coach.
