ENInternational organised crime is immediate and ever increasing concern of the World’s law enforcement institutions. As gangs are constantly enhancing world wide co-operation it is probable that activities of international organised gangs will grow in number and importance. The objective of this book is to improve and co-ordinate prevention of organised crime in Lithuania in co-operation with European structures. The book contains four parts where organised crime is analysed as a social phenomenon, the concept of the phenomenon (major and auxiliary traits, variety of concepts, the problem of definition), genesis (its’ rise, historical and social evolution), international organised crime and preconditions of its’ formation. The present situation of organised crime, prevention programs of the phenomenon, legal acts and their impact on organisation of prevention of organised crime in Lithuania are analysed in the book. International organisations and their activities (generalisation of international experience and the analysis of legal base) in blocking the way to organised crime have been overviewed as well. The author presents his own scientific suggestions, which may be useful in carrying out state policy in the sphere of control and prevention of organised crime. The book is for a wide range of readers: students of the police educational institutions, officers of the police and other law enforcement institutions, officials upgrading professional qualifications and other members of Lithuanian society who are interested in problems of international organised crime.
