ENThe origins of the Lithuanian philology could be traced in the first and second decades of the 20t h century when the first Lithuanian secondary schools were organised. The framework for teaching the Lithuanian language and literature was developed in the first period of existence of the Lithuanian Republic. The pre-war system of training was being ruined during the post-war years of Soviet occupation. In Soviet Lithuanian school language training and especially literary education were determined by several factors: time assigned for Lithuanian philology, forms of ideological impact and real potentials to resist them. Most managers involved in education system aimed at retaining the time asigned for Lithuanian philology, and programmers - at paying the least as possible tribute to conjuncture. From the post-war period up to the Restoration of Independence in the 5-11th forms 36-37 weekly lessons were assigned for Lithuanian philology as well as in Lithuanian gymnasiums of the fourth decade. That was preconditioned by a longer, as compared with other former Soviet Republics, duration of secondary education which was achieved in hard insistent attempts.
