ENThe book „The National Ideal in Politics: The Cases of Four Countries“ is the second one of the author. Expressions of nationalism as the national ideology through the programmes and actions of nationalistic parties are discussed in this book. In modern political science, those parties are usually called the radical right or extreme right; many systematic politicians and political scientists think that they are challenge for democracy. The purposes of the book were to find out if these statements are right, to look at what nationalism is and at purposes of this ideology, how nation and state are understood in it, and why the achievements of nationalistic parties in some counties are remarkable and in other ones they are insignificant. All these questions are analysed from different points of view - geographical, political, and ideological. Four countries are chosen - France, Denmark, Poland, and Lithuania; two of them are in the Western Europe, and two other are situated in the Central East of the continent. Nationalistic parties in two countries either are in power or just near it, in two other they have no power. The basic principles of democratic system of government, of political right and left are explained in details with the purpose to show how these parties are related to democracy, as well as the cultural and social aspects of the scheme of the right-left political localisation. Beside political analysis, historical data of nationalistic parties are given, as establishing, activity, election achievements, and legislation when they are in power. The book is finished with short epilogue where the reader can find the newest information about personalities of nationalistic politics, focused especially on situation in Lithuania. There is expectation that this book will broaden knowledge of nationalistic politics of political science in Lithuania and will give more opportunities for those who are interested to deepen their understanding.
