ENThe Duke M. K. Radvila’s map of 1613 is one of the most significant Llithuanian cultural and historical monuments. Tthe boundaries of the Great Duchy of Lithuania are shown there in detail, there is given the administrative division, a lot of historical facts and other information. It is written on the map that it was made on initiative and for his money. However its composition and printing are still the riddles: why the map appeared in the atlases only in 1613, many years after its composition and duke Radvila’ death, etc. The author has found out that: 1. The measurements needed for military cartography and the Valakai reform were used for the map composition. 2. Some people led according to the words on the map by Radvila himself took part in the map composition. Determined the scale of the map, its content, etc., so its authorship belongs to him. 3. The Upsala copy of the map meant for representation is not the oldest. It was published only after 1631. However, it is an unfounded conclusion that it is the first copy. 4. The oldest remaining original map of 1613 was printed on four pages of Blaeu atlas of 1631. 5. The map of Great Duchy of Llithuania stimulated the competition of atlas publishers and at the same time influenced the development of cartography in Europe. [From the publication]
