ENThis article revisits the first Lithuanian Song Festival, known as the “Day of Song,” which took place in Kaunas on 23 and 25 August 1924. It is regarded as a historic milestone that brought together dispersed choirs and choir leaders, promoted national unity across the country, expanded the choral repertoire with new compositions, and laid the foundations for both the Lithuanian choral tradition and the nationwide Song Festival movement. The article outlines the festivals prehistory including early choral gatherings and regional events and reconstructs the preparations for the first festival, highlighting changes in the programme and clarifying participant and audience numbers. Drawing on primary sources, the author uncovers numerous new facts that offer a fuller picture of interwar Lithuanias choral culture, musical literature, and the significant contributions of the nations intelligentsia to the spread of the Lithuanian song tradition.
