ENAušra Kalinkevičienė and Stasė Ustilaitė claim in their article that the problem of sex education with the disabled is caused by the particularities of their general development, the particularity of their disability. Therefore, in this kind of education it is important to consider the approachability and perspicuity of the information provided, the selection of certain teaching methods and the competence of the educator. The results of the research showed that parents do not have enough knowledge on the issues of sex education and the majority (62.4 per cent) attribute sex education function to a teacher. A weak role of a social pedagogue, psychologist and medical doctor in the process of education of children with disabilities showed up. The data analysis of the research revealed the problems that parents face when developing the sexuality of children with disabilities: the lack of knowledge, abilities and skills as well as psychological preparation when explaining sex-related issues; difficulties in conveying information in cases of visual, auditory and mental disorders; worry that the information may encourage inappropriate sexual behaviour in the children; isolation of the family of the child with disability from social environment as a result of negative attitude to the disabled. When solving the problems of sex education with children with disabilities it is necessary to ensure help from educational institutions for the family: to prepare sex education program for the disabled, provide parents with a possibility to receive psychological help, arrange an educational system where the specialists would take part in joint development programs together with the parents.
