ENThe article analyses one of the most outstanding narratives of armed anti- Soviet resistance in Lithuania - a diary of Lithuanian resistance fighter (partisan) Lionginas Baliukevičius-Dzūkas (1925-1950). The diary is reviewed as unique among other narratives of the similar genre because it depicts the process of the formation of partisan consciousness. This process is represented in the article through the analysis of several aspects. First of all, the diary is analysed in the context of other classical partisan narratives as featuring an exceptional communication style which could be attributed to both the personality of the diary’s author and complex circumstances under which the diary was written. These circumstances are perceived as contributing to the transformation of the diary genre and placing a partisan diary into a separate category of this genre by bringing it closer to a model diary. The meeting between Dzūkas and MGB agent Varnas (Kostas Kubilinskas-Kapsas) is discussed in the article as a central focus of the diary. In the narrative, the meeting is presented as a dialogue between the two intellectuals who discuss what essential stance they should take in the face of Soviet occupation. Dzūkas acquaintance with Kapsas and the latter’s betrayal of Dzūkas is documented in the diary in a compelling way and becomes the key event of the partisan diary influencing the development of Dzūkas’ self-awareness as a partisan and reinforcing his stance.
