ENThe question about the national education was one of the central among reformers of the Indian and Lithuanian independence movements. The outstanding figure of Aurobindo Ghose (Sri Aurobindo) as a creator of the national program on various levels has been discussed. His idea about postcolonial India brings the importance of the necessity to establish schools along the national lines. The article shows the steps he did take in order to open eyes of his countrymen into the concept of nationalism, what the word nation means and to what direction national education must proceed. Literature works and worldview of Vydūnas is akin to Sri Aurobindo‘s, in both cases national education must bring forth spiritual development of the each nation and to fulfill ever higher purposes.
