Summary / Abstract:

ENThe aim of the study is to analyze the socio-political cleavages in the Baltic states. The socio-political structure of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia differs from other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The leading role is played by ethnic differences resulting from complex historical conditions, manifested by the large Russian minority in Latvia and Estonia. The memory of the period when the Baltic states functioned as republics of the Soviet Union has a significant impact on the formation of contemporary divisions. The specificity of the Baltic states also concerns the differentiation between a strong center and peripheral regions. Keywords: socio-political cleavages, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.
