ENJackus Sondeckis (1893-1989), the former burgomaster of Šiauliai city, in 1984-1989 wrote The Recollections which he called the Stations of my Life. Being a gifted narrator he managed to tell interesting stories about his career and the situation in Lithuania in the first half of the 20th century. There are especially interesting places in the Recollections where J. Sondeckis writes about the essential moments of Lithuanian political history, i. e. about the national movement in Vilnius in the beginning of the 20th century, the establishment of the Republic of Lithuania, Coup of December the 17th 1926, Soviet and Nazi occupations. In our opinion J. Sondeckis’s recollections deeply reflect the main shifts of Lithuania in the first half of the 20th century and therefore they are an important source of the Lithuanian history.
