Summary / Abstract:

ENThis article presents the priest Romualdas Stakėnas’s manuscript collection of sermons. Recently this manuscript was found in the teacher Jurgis Lapienis’s (1910.09.29-1993.12.30) private library. The sermons were written by Stakėnas between 1861 and 1864. At that time Stakėnas was a priest in Varniai Cathedrial (Telšiai district). The author discusses the occurrences of mixing up the ending of the noun’s stem in the collection of sermons. This article also presents and discusses the examples of the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language (Volumes 1-20), the dictionaries of dialects and subdialects (5 books) and the dictionaries of old Lithuanian language (4 books). The author concludes that the nouns with the ending of the stem -u and -iu have an inclination to pass to nouns with the ending of the stem -a and -ia, for example: Sulwertojus - Stuwertojas, mokitojus - mokitojas, Popiežius - Popietis. In the collection of sermons this process of mixing up the endings of nouns’ stems is very distinct in writing the sermons between 1863 and 1864.
