Summary / Abstract:

ENThe texts of the Holy Book are passed from one century to another retaining the same context and simultaneously changing the form. For this reason the studies of the history of the preservation of these texts for many centuries have been serving as the source of invaluable information. By comparing the same texts, the variants of which are remote by over 400 years, language development is observed and evaluated. Particularly significant facts of the texts in the Bible can be traced by employing systematic analysis. As an object of such systematic analysis units of one of the most interesting and mysterious phenomenon in the historical syntax and morphology of the Lithuanian language, the post-positional locative, is discussed in the work. The period (16th-17* centuries), when the usage of the post-positional locative was comparatively frequent is recorded in archaic scripts. The comparative studies of the translations of the Holy Book of that period and of the present time contribute to the indentification of the reasons, which determined the non-use of the post-positional locative any longer. Such facts of language development are numerous in the above-mentioned texts. The canonical texts of the Bible serve as an inexhaustible source for the diachronic studies of linguistic expression.
