ENThe aim of the research was to reveal the situation of physical education in Prienai region schools from the teachers’ point of view. The object of the research – the situation of physical education in Prienai region schools by teachers’ point of view. Methods. The survey was carried out using questionnaire with reference to Sport Science and Physical Education Councils’ (ICSSPE/ IOC) international study "Second World-Wide Survey of School Physical Education, Final Report" (Hardman & Marshall, 2009). Questionnaires were distributed to all 12 Prienai region schools, while the questions were answered by all 22 (100 percent) physical education teachers (12 men and 10 women).Results/Conclusions. Research reveals that in Prienai region: a) physical education teachers mainly teach team games, athletics and organize outdoor activities; b) as the unconventional physical activities teachers mostly use checkers or chess, weight lifting and darts; c) teachers evaluate students’ progress and achievements in physical education lessons based on the grades; d) teachers prefer an efforts and progress being the best criterion of the students’ achievements assessment; e) physical education lessons for boys and girls (separately from each other) are largely implemented from the ninth grade; f) physical education classes for all physically weaker pupils are conducted in conjunction with the whole class; g) for students, who are exempted from physical activity due to health conditions or temporary illness, teachers usually offer to play checkers or chess and propose unconventional activities, such as exercise books for physical education and assistance to a teacher during the lesson; h) physical education teaching tools and learning equipment quality at schools is good, whereas quantity is above average; j) the status of physical education subject as well as the status of physical education teachers’ are the same as the any other subjects and its’ teachers at school; k) the main problems, related with physical education in school, by teachers’ position are an inappropriate sports training facilities and also too small number of physical education lessons; l) basketball, volleyball, football, badminton and table tennis are the most offered sports type non-formal education activities for the pupils; m) competitions at school or outside of school and additionally pedagogues approach, because it will be a benefit for pupils health or future profession are fundamental tools, which teachers apply their students to encourage the attendance these non-formal education activities.
