ENThe introduction to the article explains the basic issues of the meaning of the space in the social sciences. The detailed description of this issue is the understanding of space in the humanistic context which becomes a significant area (something and for someone) marked by the presence of signs which are linked to social experience with other contents to which it refers. Analysis of the symbolic space used to systematic approach to the problem in the context of the Tatar ethnic community. The author proposed the model of the symbolic space of the Polish Tatars based on the opposition of the sacred and the profane which consists sanctity and beyond the sacred elements (the ethnic and national areas). Symbolic dimensions of space are further divided between real and imaginary. The border between them based on the presence of a real experience, a sense of proximity, emotions and myths which refer to the past.
