ENThe goal of the article is to present the full range of abuse by the Crown and Lithuanian military upon the local residents of the provinces which they have come to contact with during the times of the crisis of the state, the third northern war as well as the Tamogrodzka Confederacy. It also shows the attitude of the society towards their army, and their means of defense against fraud and robberies brought upon by the soldiers. As a representative example we take a close look at the relations between the military and the residents of the Lublin province, which was very similar in the entire kingdom. The analyzed material shows that the residents seized a number of measures and have developed numerous methods of defending themselves from their army. They are divided in two categories: those used directly when soldiers arrived in the area, and those used indirectly which aimed at avoiding stationing the army, disciplining them, and executing compensation for damages. Based on an analysis of the Lublin court books, Sejm acts and correspondence from 1702-1716 the Crown and Lithuanian soldiers often appeared as oppressors, which abused their position in relation to residents which have already been disadvantaged by natural disasters and foreign army raids. This has not changed due to the official position of the Lublin Regional Council, which first praised and encouraged the soldiers while being attacked by foreign armies, and then criticized them during dual monarchy, only to go back to praise in order to obtain the army in for the Tamogrodzka Confederacy.
