Le Denominazioni del maschio dei bovini in area baltica

ENThe male adult (both the working one and the breeder) and the young bovine, as well as the female bovine, are not unanimously denominated, neither in the Baltic nor in the very Lithuanian area. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to reconstruct the Common Baltic terminology and to account for the complexity of the Lithuanian situation. I shall argue that the Latvian area is substantially conservative, whilst Lithuanian - innovative, in partial agreement with Prussian. Within the rare cases of Latvian conservations as opposed to Lithuanian and Prussian innovations (some shared by both areas), this case displays peculiar features for two reasons: (a) the phenomenon concerns a whole lexical sphere rather than a single term, (b) in the Lithuanian area such innovational processes arc partly still in the making.
